Why is there no torrent?! (Or even a regular download of all the songs in one tar/zip?)

After all these years I keep listening to your tracks. It surely wasn't easy to create all this work of arts. (And the other amazing thing is the SC websites are still alive despite being that old.)

Great work guys! Thank you so much for completing all the songs. I've checking out this website for years!
I played SC2 on DOS back in '92 and this is the game that made me buy a Gravis UltraSound. :) Love hearing all the remixes vs the original MOD. Ah the nostalgia!
The Precursors team page seems to be broken though. ;)

The music is phenomenal! It captures the nostalgia of the game, but elevates to an even fuller sound. Thank you! Star Control 2 was a fulfilling experience then and now. I just beat the Ur-Quan Masters three times in the last month; once with the original music and twice with the remixes. Now I listen to the soundtrack to get me through my work day.

Please let me know if it would be in any way possible to get this amazing soundtrack pressed in vinyl. Minimum order is 200 for $1,600USD which is $8 per record.
I would be 100% willing to cover the up front expense AND find buyers for the 1598 copies I don't personally need (at whatever price you deem fit), as long as the profits go to the appropriate source/cause/charity.
I very much dig your version of the music, but if the rights reside with TfB, just let me know and I will contact them. Either way, I appreciate your time. Please don't publish this post =)

I hope it is ok if I used some of the music to present some of my paintings: https://vimeo.com/147183103
I credited the composer - but would be happy to include more information - or follow any instructions by creator. Really like the music. Always loved SC and it's incredible loyal following.

Only few games in the 90s came close to the test of time. One of them was Star COntrol 2! Nothing even by today's standard came close except for very fw which you can count with one hand.
As for the remixes, its awesome. Great work and dedication by really talented people here. Hope if they ever get around to making Star COntrol 4, they use your music!

This is awesome! I was too young a kid when the orignal SC2 came out, but I did dig into The Ur-Quan Masters remake and had tons of fun. Just today happened on some SC2 music on youtube and eventually stumbled here. Heartfelt thanks for these remakes! Will download these tracks and put them on my mp3-player so I can listen to them while jogging!

Sorry, but there's no way to quickly get all the MP3s from our site right now without downloading them individually. It's a feature that would be nice to have, but we have limited storage space on this server. We'll absolutely consider it if there's interest in it.

I've stated this somewhere before, but FLAC releases for this project wouldn't really do much good. We don't have access to lossless versions of all the music in the first place. The bitrate at which these MP3s have been encoded should be good enough that most people would never be able to tell the difference with a FLAC anyway, especially considering the originals typically sound pretty "dirty" in this case anyway.
Individual artists may feel the desire to release lossless versions of their music. For my part, I don't. At least not for UQM, where it was hard enough to obtain MP3s and OGGs at a sufficient bitrate.

Excellent remix. You really should release a lossless version. Also it's not very comfortable to download mp3 track one by one and fix the every track name. You should put an archive with music release (I'm not about .uqm archive with .ogg that designed for loop).

May 4th, 2014 - 18:49:09
Sorry for the late reply. The music is only downloadable on a track by track basis if you want it for use outside of the game. You could download and extract the UQM files, but I strongly recommend against it since the files inside are OGG-files that are often designed for looping, whereas the MP3 files on this site are designed to be listened to in a music player, with proper beginnings and ends.
If the tracks play automatically when you try to download them, that means you've got a music player plugin installed in your browser. Since that doesn't sound like it's what you want, I recommend figuring out which plugin it is and uninstalling it, but even so, all you have to do to get around it is to right-click the download links and select "Save As" or "Save Link As". That'll bypass the plugin.
Hope that helps!

If I am not mistaken, the .uqm file for the full music pack is really a compressed folder. I am unsure which archive type it really is (.zip or a .rar or something else), but I was able to open it up using zipeg. Hope this helps you out!

Feel free to send me an email (click my nickname) if you want to use the music for one of your hobby projects. In general it's fine to use it for non-commercial projects as long as you let us know about it, but commercial projects are no-go. If in doubt, ask!
As for sheets, MIDI files and such, those won't be available, at least not from me. Maybe you'll be luckier with other team members. I find that sheets would be of limited use anyway due to the complexity of the instruments.

Your question was already answered, as you yourself point out, so there's not much more for me to say. The in-game pack isn't being assembled by the Precursors, so the process is out of my hands. At this point, questions about the final pack should be directed towards the UQM team itself.

I just want to say, that you guys are musical geniuses. The quality of each and every music track, especially when played in-game, overwhelms in only the greatest of ways. If you were to put these tracks up for sale of some kind (I realize they're remixes and made for a remake of a game owned by a now-defunct gaming company), I'm sure the revenue they would generate would do much to reflect how well put together this music is. Absolutely beautiful.
I have recently rediscovered Star Control 2 when an HD remake of the Ur-Quan Masters was released, and that, combined with the new music, makes for a completely updated and modern experience (as modern as a game from the 90's can be of course).
Thanks for all of the hard work you've put into this music, and know that, well, everyone I'm sure, is thankful for it :). (I can only really speak for myself!)

I know it's been quite a while since any noise has been made about Remix Pack 4, but I just wanted to chip in and offer my thanks and congratulations for (re)producing such wonderful music. I burned way too many hours not only playing SC2, but just listening to the MODs I'd ripped out of the game for my own pleasure. Do you have any project remixing SC3 music ? Indeed, the music was not as magical as in SC2, still, it was something (right now, I am thinking of the ending music with the prologue voice). Lot of potential here !

A labour of love is a thing of beauty. Star Control really tapped into that ineffable quality of great story telling. It drew the best from classic Science Fiction and wove them seamlessly into one unforgettable video game - the ultimate interactive story book. It's the great heroic quest into the archetypes of the human psyche - a tribute to the thoughts of Jung's Collective Unconsciousness and Campbell's Universal Myth. It really is the Star Wars of video games, combining an epic story with memorable characters and magnificent music.
To the team at Medieval Future: I hope you realize how deeply you've touched the hearts of so many fans. The remixes really are spectacular and evoke that spine tingling nostalgia with the hope that one day, some way, somehow your talent and that of the game creators will combine to realize THE BEST DAMN ACTION ADVENTURE GAME EVER!
Like all the commentators before me - thanks for sharing your hard work and great talent, it's really quite something.

Great work. I personally like how you remixed Ur-Quan theme, it is so deep, captures all the 'things' they went through and angst of everything. I still like the originals though, probably due to the old-school feel.
And my second fawourite is Ilwrath, i liked the remix, but I do believe it needs more impacting sounds, like the original had. Hope you are putting the same love in the 4th piece of this delicious cake.

Have you guys ever heard of "Audiosurf? Your remixes make the best tracks for that game EVER. I was wondering if you could release the bonus songs for download so I could use them in the game. Also I'm very much looking forward to collection 4.
All I can do is cross my fingers but here's hoping.

Every once in a while I stumble across Star Control II somewhere on the internet... and each time I'm blown away at how pervasive it is. I mean, come on guys... this game is almost 20 YEARS OLD. Amazing.
Absolutely great work with the music here. I do hope for more!

I am SOOOO impressed by the work you guys have done!!
I can't even begin to thank you for the work you put in! - As someone who is easily moved by music, the tracklist I have made while playing some of the best space games throughout my life, make it an enjoyable, escapeable, and memorable experience when I unwind from a stressfull day at college. :)

This is awesome! I love this music, great job! I like it a lot, and it is quite nostalgic having played quite a bit of Star Control 2 and even the first one.
I like it so much that I want to use it in a video I am making, specifically Hyperspace, for my student job at Lane Community College in Eugene Oregon. The video is a promotional video for our Women's basketball team, who currently have a 72 home game win streak. It will be about 30 seconds or so in length, and will be displayed on our schools youtube page, facebook page and our Lane TV station.
Of course with your permission I would very much like to use this song!

I decked out my mobile phone with a Star Control theme, which meant loading it up with Precursors tracks for listening to. I was playing some of the remixes, and my fiancee says "wow, these are really pretty, let's play these at our wedding!"
So my wedding guests were treated yesterday to songs about giant space caterpillars that want to enslave us all, and impenetrable slave shields, amongst other, more traditional, wedding fare. I'd say that's a job well done, gentlemen. :)

It's just a short note, but I wanted to thank you for this. I'm not a massive SC2 fan, though I did play it back when it came out and I do consider it a great game. The reason I'm writing is that I am a huge fan of video game soundtracks and various BGM remixes. These are really ambient and fantastic and I've been listening to them non-stop now since I started downloading them. That's the first time since the Halo I OST came out that I can remember launching into a soundtrack start to finish so thoroughly.
Kudos and thanks again!

I am completely blown away by this project and it's results and as of this moment my eyes are welling up with tears of joy as I listen to the music and reminesce about the 7 months of 1994 that it took me to map out a complete "to do list" that enabled myself and "The Alliance of Free Stars" to destroy the "Samatra"! The fact that someone besides myself even remembers or cares THIS MUCH about my personal favorite video game of all time PROVES that this was the most groundbreaking idea since PONG was unleashed upon the world. Fred Ford, Paul Reiche III, Erol Otus and the rest of their cohorts should take a bow! Collectively you all created a masterpiece that to this day leaves all of us shaking our heads in amazement! The original "Star Control" that appeared at the tail end of the "Sega Genesis"' life was, at it's time of release, the most sophisticated cartridge to ever appear, the only reason I still keep my own trusty 20 year old "Genesis" ready for action, and only a PRECURSOR of what was to come next! No game before this had ever offered the mix of easy-to-play head to head combat offered that was unabashedly ripped straight from the beloved "Atari Space War" and the strategic rotating starmap that was brilliantly concieved by combining "Chess" with "Milton Bradley's Sub Search"! The game mechanics of that version were pure genius and to my memory the first time I ever saw the word "Starbucks" in print! This way of battling for galactic dominance had never been experienced before or after, as they moved forward with "Star Control 2", jettisoning this mode for the new role-playing, exploration based "Ur-Quan Masters" storyline that cobbled "Dungeons and Dragons" together with "Starflight" and making history once again! I bought a "Panasonic 3DO System" at "Good Guys" for 500 DOLLARS in 1994 just to play this game as I still did not own a computer yet! (Again, I keep that machine ready at all times for a melee battle with friends and family!) The years I spent waiting for a new incarnation were unbelieveably long and frustrating. The release of the computer-only "Star Control 3" put a fork in it -it was done! I finally got a computer in 2001 and now 8 years later I find others on the web like me longing for the Ur-Quan to rise once again...perhaps one day before I pass on it will happen.....

Hi, I happily join to all the blesses in here and I'd like say I admire your skill and your commitment.
I think that by putting so much of yourselves into the music you put yourselves a very high standard to follow, and that's probably the reason people are starting to nag for the fourth pack release.
Because people have heard your potential comes into full realization they have come to expect the commitment and prowess you all showed thus far, and I know you don't have a date for the release so you prefer not comment about it until you do have one...
However, I don't think it's the right approach here. People are nagging because the music you produce takes them to worlds of wonder in their thoughts - or simply makes them feel really good :)
So all those music packs are a masterpiece, a work of art that people admire. The 4th release would be the final piece of creation, thus completing it and thus (and this is the important stuff) letting all of us to enjoy the whole creation to the fullest.
Maybe you are a little afraid of finishing this project? Finishing the project will do only good - a few sites will update and help spread the newsa nd more will be attracted to UQM.
As long as it is halted it's stuck like the SC2 sequel... I hope finishing the project would start a chain reaction, sequel anyone? :)
Finally, yes I know you are all people and have real lives and careers. I have too - both actually if you didn't think so!
Yet if you decide to put a deadline to finish the project already (don't you get tired of it? :) you can finish it. Emm... yes you can...
Don't be annoyed from the nagging! People do it because they love what you do (and don't worry there wouldn't be any little girls screaming in front of your houses after the project's completion, and if there are just buy some rottweilers, you should have enough RUs by then).
So, now that I'm quite sure I grabbed your attention (and settled down that publicity issue) - what do you say?

Hello all.
Been a sorta-kinda lurker since... um... I think about '05?
Anyroad, I LOVE the tunes. Even the ones I do not personally like, are still admittedly awesome music. I was just commenting under 'Kohr-Ah Battle' on an epic idea.
Picture if you will for 'Melee Music'; the basic classic base line, and then one or two treble lines and a simple percussion line along the lines of each ship's Victory Ditty. That way, each battle will be appropriately themed for Spathy vs Pkunk, or Arilou vs Kzer-Za, or what ever.
I personally do no have the programing prowess to pull such a thing off, but is there anyone who does?

Random Dave, please send me an email if you'd like to discuss the possibility of using the music for your own projects. We're usually pretty agreeable as long as we're credited and the music isn't used commercially, but any agreement will have to be made between the artist of the individual piece and the person who'd like to use the music.

I'm happy to say that the music of SC2/UQM with these remix-packs is just amazing. If the graphics and user interface could be updated too it would be a truly fantastic experience. Now, it's absolutely great and enjoyable, but the music is almost too good paired up with the old interface and outdated graphics.

psydev, the reason that Eric Berge's track listing is wrong is because it's generated automatically, and only based on what remixes we've released so far. Since we haven't released anything for Syreen, his MOD isn't listed either. Also, we've released two official Spathi remixes, so his original is listed twice as well. I consider that a minor bug, but probably won't go back and fix it.

I love every remixed song so far! Truly amazing, so dedicated, it's like having pure liquid love poured straight into my ears. My work laptop plays these to me every so often, and the day just starts going by so much faster. Of I start hallucinating the swirly hyperspace distortions. Either way, the day is much more fun!
Is this site abandoned?

this is not for the feedback board, just a site correction:
The composer Eric Berge also wrote the Syreen track for SC2, it's not listed. Instead the Spathi track is listed twice.

I think it would be cool if you could just "copy" the originals, like using the same samples but just making the tracks "fresh" if you know what I mean. By finding the same instruments but of higher quality. I think you understand.
The begining of the UTWIG track - this would be a good example. Otherwise, well, for me the tracks seem either "bloated" or too much samples have been changed to something else.
Maybe start a new project, you could probably call it "The Search" and make an album with tracks closer to the originals.
I'm saying this because I was dissapointed in the Chmmr and Supox remix (the originals were awesome)and to capture the awesome tunes like Shofixti, Thraddash and Mycon, you would have to do this.

I also found another good use for the game, I always load up a savegame of just before teh first meeting with Fwiffo just so I can hear that crazy bugger again.
I'm curious though, will pack 4 contain some Syreen tracks as well?

I'd still be interested to see what their take on the 'lost' races from SC1 wold be like.. The Chenjesu.. a whispery, tinkly crystalline theme.. The MrrmMrrm, ratchets, motors and metallic clanking behind the music.. The Androsynth... Hmm.. politely angry guitar, I'm thinking.

Just saying that I like to see Juni's an MP3 of Re-Enter remix uploaded here. It's one song I really like to show to others, but it's .OGG format makes that inconvenient.

When there are expectations, it's always challenging living up to. Thus, the best way to live up to the hopes of many, is to avoid it.
Keep waxing our faces with comments that the Yehat mix is arriving. I know this is all part of your free time, but its the right thing to do. If you think that Yehat doesn't need a refreshment, remastering or remixing, just say so.

Precursors, I want to let you know that I am at work, typing away on a powerpoint presentation and listening to some tracks... when Starbase: Under A Red Sky comes on. I get a sudden rush of energy, enthusiasm and become more productive. Awesome remixes.
Patiently awaiting the Yehat remix,

I'd been thinking of attempting to pay for some further releases for some time, myself. I'm by no means a rich man, but I'd be willing to pitch in $100 or so; I feel that, in terms of what's already been created and in terms of how much I want those last few songs, it's worth it.

Like everyone else here I've been playing Star Control II over and over again for years waiting for something new. The music has been one of the best features of the game and what I've heard here is incredible. I just found out about this site and I'm checking all the tunes out... love the Hyperspace remix. Excellent work and thanks for the hard work! Later human liquid sacs!

This is amazing! What a great work! This is not only for those who enjoy Star Control.
This kind of music reaches a level far beyond. It can reach any one that enjoys good music.
I am also amazed with the Star control community. Intelligent people enjoying good SciFi and well conceived games. I just hope that the Star Control saga will continue.
Congratulations to everyone involved in this project.

Okay, I am done waiting. Perhaps this deal can be somehow sweetened.
List a paypal account. I will _pay_ for the rest of the remixes. I am sure others will too, at a multiple of a standard album price point.
I encourage all others on the message board to additionally signify assent.

First of all, thanks for all the kind comments. Second, I apologize for not getting around to verifying the comments that have been submitted recently. I reinstalled Windows and forgot to install the database application.
I wouldn't say the Precursors project is dead. It's just in a kind of stasis right now. Almost all the remixes from pack 4 have been released already on an individual basis, and can be downloaded from this site right now. We just need to finish up a couple of remixes before the 4th pack can be considered finished, but there are too many real-life obligations for that to happen at the moment.

Seeing how the first three packs were released quite quickly maybe I was spoiled and therefore it seems like torture to wait for the fourth pack? Taalo Ambassador, we aren't using a free service to host this site. We're using a paid service in Norway. Having said that, it's not expensive at all. Look around for cheap offers where you live.
Steer well clear of free hosts for stuff like this. They don't appreciate sites that generate a lot of traffic (this site generates about 2 GB traffic per day).

Hey guys. I love the work y'all have done, and I'm really anxious to hear a Yehat remix and the full version of that depressing Syreen remix (You thought noone caught that, didn't you? :p ) But that's not the point of this post. In fact, I don't want y'all to post this. I've started my own project to rerecord and process the entirety of the voice-overs. I'm calling it the Taalo Project (not in anyways to steal the method that you used to come up with your name), but I was wondering how I could get a free site set up for my packages like what y'all have here. Thanks. My e-mail is in the post, obviously, but my screen name on the UQM forum is Davey Yungblud, and my YIM screen name is The_Ghoulish_Bounty_Hunter. Thanks again ^-^

I think the unofficial Yehat remix is too smooth, when you think Yehat scream "THE REVULOTION HAS BEGUN"!, I think that you should still play the original Yehat melody in the 1st 40 seconds of the song, then it would be perfect, and some bass drum in the song would be nice too :)
Keep up the good work, boyz!
Phoenix
April 24th, 2007 - 21:58:01
I've been playing the "unofficial" Yehat song repeatedly on my computer and MP3 player, so I think it's safe to say that I love it as a song. The melody is faithful to the original song and nicely captures some of the inner struggles that the Yehat have within themselves (Shofixti vs. loyalty to the Queen). Written in the context of an in-game song that is looped repeatedly, I think there is too much of a "difference" between the song ending and intro that wasn't as pronounced in the original Yehat song. Perhaps calm the song ending down a little more to match it with the intro, speed up the intro a little more to match it with the ending, keep the intro as is but shorten it, or keep the ending as is but shorten it. Either one of these four might make the song a little more ideal as a loopback song in the game.

Errr. I guess I should be happy that the project is getting somewhere again but all this waiting and this is what the Yehat track sounds like? Yes, there have been both great songs and somewhat disappointing songs before, but this is definitely a major miss: an unnecessary lead-in that lasts 1:30, a generic dance beat and excessive ambiance/chorus backgrounds. Technically it's a nicely done song but I think it's not fitting at all for the Yehat.

I'd like to talk about something completely different, yet still related. A new game is coming out in October by the 'Sims' people. It is called 'Spore'. In a nutshell, you start the game as a microbe in a primordial tide pool, and finish (if you care to ever stop) as a Star Fairing race. How could this possibly be related to good ol' Star Con you ask? Simple; because the creature editor (and I *think* the vehicle editor as well) is nearly limitless in what you can create, one could conceivably create the Star Con universe! You could make the Spathi, the Ur-Quan (both of them!), the Ilwrath, the VUX. The Umga I'm not too sure about, and a few others come ta think of it, but you *could* make most of them. So, my fellow Alliance Of Free Stars members, and my good Battle Thrall neighbors, how cool will THAT be?

Dear Tilt,
As a long time fan of Starcontrol and your remix music, I want to thank you and your team for your efforts over the last year.
We understand that you must feel the pressure to get the Yehat track finalized and compounding this would be the knowledge that it is traditionally the fans favorite.
But I want you to know that we are all behind you and there is NO pressure to finalize your work before it is ready.

Thanks for the great music everyone. I can't wait to play the SC2 conversion! I really enjoyed "Battle of Sa-Matra", "Pkunk" and many other remixes. One problem: either it was the name length, or all the umlauts, but my mp3 program totally freaked out when trying to load the tracks' artist tags. I just used mp3tag to change them and they read fine.

grubba brug brug, before making statements like that, at least get your facts right. The Precursors released almost a whole remix pack's worth of tracks in early 2006. It would appear that the precursors are defunct - the remixes were done on a regular basis from 2003 - 2004 (mid), then suddenly stopped.

Yes, you can replace any of the remixes by opening the remix packages in a zip application (like WinRAR, for example) and manually replacing the files in there. Keep in mind that the files you want to add must have the same filename as the original remix in the package.

When the situation changes and we are ready to get back to finishing the last few tracks, we'll tell you. Until then, enjoy the almost complete remix set that we've already released.
And no, we're not dead and we're not abandoning this page just because we don't post a lot. I go through feedback on a daily basis in order to sort out spam from real posts and make sure your feedback actually gets posted.

Wow! What a cool site-the music goes beyond awesome! Suggestion; check out the BBC show Red Dwarf for some inspiration-apparently, the successful Sci-Fi stuff always has a bit of comedy relief. Just a thought because, I love what you've done so far-keep up the good work.

Wow! I've just read some of this feedback. I was going to ask why hasn't there been a Yeehat Remix done? It's probably the best Alien Theme Song ever in Star Control 2. I think Thraddash is the second best from what I recall. How about adding the original MOD files into your download section as well as WAV and OGG version of those MODs?

It has to be the greatest theme in the entire game without contest. A remix of that would be nigh-on orgasmic.

Hi, Im a regular here, and just wanted to say that I don't care how soon until the next release comes out. I figure that the longer you have to work on a particular tune, the better it will be when it is finally released.
If this is true, then the yehat theme will be the best remix evar! :-)

Almost all of Remix Pack 4 has already been released and can be downloaded from this site. Look at the Download Music page, under Additional Precursors Releases. If you want the OGG-files for use in the game, head over to sc2.sourceforge.net and read the front page news.
The original music is available from this site, but won't play with Media Player since it doesn't support MOD-files. I recommend WinAmp if you're on a Windows PC. To download the files without having your browser automatically play them, right click the file link and choose Save Target As.

There hasn't been much said, but to help out the new ones...
I have yet to find out the reasons on the delay of music, but they stopped the weekly progressions and I quote:
"March 10th, 2006 - 22:51:12:
I just wanted to say that we probably won't be able to deliver the remaining remixes on a weekly basis. Some of the remaining ones need additional polish and development, and other releases are being slowed down by technical problems.
From this point on, we'll release the remaining remixes separately as soon as they are ready. Hopefully it won't take long."
There has been minor changes including the "GUESTBOOK -> FEEDBACK" which only means that they are still around and working on things on their spare time.
Also, it appears that there were some server/hosting problems, but I believe they have fixed that.
For the release of anything new, there has been no messages or posts. We can only wait...
For any additional future information, they will post on the UrQuan Masters Website which can be found on the Links Tab.

What a great way to pay tribute to one of the best games ever! I would point out music as the most outstanding element of the amalgam that made for such gaming magic, but it would be unfair to the story, graphics, gameplay, humor and atmosphere of the game. Still, music is the one part that those unlucky enough to have lived through the Star Control experience can still enjoy. And man, are you guys doing a great job at bringing it back to life!
The Yehat theme of the original is in my eternal hall of fame of the great Tracker years, along with Skaven/PM's 2nd Reality theme and Hellraiser's Atlantis. Riku, you rock!
I don't imagine you'll let anyone but you touch the Yehat theme, and I guess you'll put the cherry on the pie last, but if that's what it takes to meet and surpass our expectations, be it.

1)Starbase-Under a red sky
2)Vux-Ultra Gross!
3)Thraddash-Culture 19

That Traddash - culture 19 remix is one of the best, if not the best piece of game music i ever heard. If somebody would ask me wich SC2 songs are the best ones i'd have answered: Yehat, Traddash, Druuge, Hyperspace - in that order. I am not so sure anymore. Still i fear i have to line up with all those people requesting a Yehat remix... heh.

God. I thought I was a quite alone freak of SC2, and now I discover that we are plenty!
I played SC2 in the nineties, then again in 2002, and now I plan to play it again.
SC2's music is essential in the game atmosphere. 100000% thanks to the original music creators and the precursors team. I can't believe this project is so much active.
Thank you so much!

I said I was going to check every week for the latest songs in Pack 4 and sure enough here they are. Every week I check for the latest. Some things I agree like the scream in Shofixti seems odd and the machine sounds could be lowered to make room for the main melody.
Both Utwig songs seemed to move flawless, the Supox remix is awesome, and I loved attending Frungy parties.
I too am anticipating the Yehat Remix.

The .mod files are pretty easy to find, actually. Mirsoft has a good selection, if memory serves.
Great job on the new tracks, guys! I would have preferred a more 'oriental' feel to the Shofixti than the hip-hop/rap feel it has, but it's all good. The Utwig 'Mask' is *great*.. quiet, brooding.. One can almost see the dust-blown ruins of a city, the wind blowing through schoolyards....

Where could I get a basic outlay.

I have to agree with some of the other posters in regards to the Ur-Quan music. The original was loud and aggressive and struck the fear of God into me everytime I heard it. The remixed version is good in a different way, but doesn't have the aggression I think it needs...
Also, for the record, I loved the slow, pensive original Mycon music as a reflection of their nature, and I'm not sold on their new club mix personally. Everything else is GREAT though (I love the new Spathi and Umgah tunes especially), so keep it up.

In response to a_bugger's comments, I'd like to state the following:
I don't know if it's a matter of trust or a responsibility that the team has taken upon themselves to provide for us. I'd rather say that they were too successful, because they got us coming back for more, and unfortunately it's been a long time since they were able to provide anything new.
That aside, I think that the truely constructive criticism that could be made is more of this type:
If somebody has his share done already for a long time, and we're still awaiting on a few other people who have for whatever reason been absent, perhaps what is required is a redivision of labor and/or a redivision of the packs... perhaps Pack 4 needs to be subdivided in order to quench our thirst for new music, while keeping some of the pressure off of the team.
The question is, what do the team members think about my comments and suggestions?

I dont understand the source of your critism 'a bugger.' Any fans who have written remixes are perfectly free to submit them as I understand it. Remember Forevian?
And yes, projects fall apart, unsuspected things happen. So what? They have already written amazing music and I hope that they will release the final pack because I'm sure it would be amazing.

October 16th, 2005 - 12:53:51
First I'd like to say how much i appreciate the quality and amount of work done by the team thus far. The music is awesome and despite what I am going to say, I myself don't harbor any anger or contempt towards the team members and i doubt others do either. I am just seriously worried about the state of the project.
I know the following is going to be unpopular...
I've been following the project since almost the beginning and I'd like to say that 3 years from the beginning and 16 months since the last release are damn long times. I fully understand that the team members have private problems and financial difficulties etc. and these naturally take priority over the project. After all they are doing this voluntarily just for our benefit, right? Well, yes, but they also took the burden of trust from the community to finish the project in a timely fashion when they started all of this. It has been a very long time in the making. I don't think I am being unreasonable in asking these questions.
The project is free-as-in-beer so we can't really complaint about not getting everything right now and right here. The community isn't going to dissolve any time soon either even if it takes years to finish the project. So does it really matter how long it takes? I think it does. Thousands of people have been laying their trust in the team for years now. They have just been quietly waiting all this time. Just like I have been.
After all this time I read that one member of the team has finished his contributions, another one isn't even in regular communications with the core team and the remaining two have financial burdens laid upon them.
Unsuspected things happen and projects stall. It happens all of the time and I am not saying that this current stall is a malignant one. It's just something that happened. What I would like to know is how will it all be solved? To play the devil's advocate: I am quite sure that there are equally talented music makers out there willing to lend a hand to finish the job if things have gotten this bad.
I have been a patient fan of the project but these latest developments have finally made me speak up. Sorry about it all but I just felt I had to rebut some of these fans here who were whining that you can't criticise a free-as-in-beer project. Yes you can. I just did. I hope it has been even remotely constructive.

I dunno if it is just me, but whoever that Stephen person is that is commenting on all the music, it seems like he could bitch and complain about anything! Just appreciate it for the memories dude god. These guys put alot of hard work into it and all you can do is critisize them. It's bad enough they have everyone else getting on there cases about the 4th set, you dont need to add to they're stress. They dont have to do this, but they do it for us. So just take it and appreciate it.

BTW, I'm the one with the broken computer.
TiLT
October 9th, 2005 - 19:00:28
While I don't have a count of finished tracks vs unfinished ones right here (rest assured though, almost all the tracks are done), I can say the following: Real Life (tm) is taking precedence for most of us currently. Of the four members of the Precursors, one (me) has two jobs and a social life that is steadily degrading into nothingness because of this (it's been over two weeks since the last time I had a single day off), one has a currently broken computer, one is never heard from, and one is pretty much done with his contributions.
Remix Pack 4 *will* be released. However, there is no way for us to give you an estimate of when. It's done when it's done, and begging (no matter how polite or well formulated it is) doesn't speed up the process.
I'd like to thank you all for your patience. It's heartwarming to see all the nice comments on this site.

I remember playing Starcontrol II when it just came out. I now can enjoy Starcontrol II as "The UrQuan Masters" but now I can enjoy the *new* Starcontrol II with the new music. As soon as I found out about the music - I smiled for hours. At the time only PACK I & II was out but then to make the smile last longer - PACK III came out just a week later of my discovery. Now I've been checking the website every week for the past ..... ok I lost count. But I must know that I will be one of the first to smile when I see PACK IV available. Anticipation will continue to build for you guys.

All of the remixes are excellent. I love listening to them on their own, and in-game.
I salute all of the work that the Precursors have done, and I eagerly await the rest of the remixes =)

For this great music, I give my thanks.
Having only found the new music only a couple of months ago, I'm not jonesing that badly for pack 4 (though I'm glad to hear that the Yehat theme is included - I've always loved the feeling of anguish and nobility it conveys to me..).
About my only irritation is with the Hyperspace music, where the main melody is much too subdued for my taste - having listened to it for quite a few hours altogether, the new version just seems sort of bland...
And the Ur-Quan rock even more than previous, and that bit with the organs in the middle part... wow. The downside is that I can't have it my playlist late in the evening since it feels like sacrilege to play it quietly. =)

The music to this game has haunted me since I started playing it in 1992. I played the game on and off for 4 or 5 years after that because I wasn't able to put it down for longer than a month or three. I still hum some of the tunes to my self while I'm working. It's good to be able to play and listen again and it's good to know that I'm not the only one that's been wanting to quite badly :)
I don't think I've ever heard as much soul and originality comming out of MOD format as I heard on the original sound track and the new stuff doesn't dissapoint in the slightest. It's great to have it all back :)
Still wondering how I can get my hands on a starship of my own though. Been wishing I could have one ever since I finished the game.
Keep up the good work guys! Looking forward to hearing the Working Song that the Chmmr had as theme

Absolutely astounding. Found out about the remix project while installing Ur-Quan Masters 0.4.0, and the leap of faith to install remixed tunes was well worth it. The spirit and ideas of the original tunes are there, but also lots of new ideas and soundscapes that drag me out of the chair floating off somewhere between Vulpeculae and Circini. Take your time in getting inspired, it's been well over 10 years listening to the original tunes without getting tired of them :)

TiLT
August 6th, 2005 - 22:12:03
While I wouldn't object if people wanted to contribute to the project with money, it's not something that would really help the project move along. We wouldn't be able to dedicate more time to it because of a few PayPal donations, and we might actually develop additional guilt for not being quicker about it, which in turn could harm our inspiration.
Bobcat
August 6th, 2005 - 18:04:02
Actually, that might not be a good idea...
If you guys set up a PayPal link, what are the odds a few folks would be willing to chip in a little money as helpful incentive..? Let's face it, it's good music, and enough people like it, people should be willing to contribute towards its production.

Awesome work. Brings back memories. SC2 music brought me into the demoscene in the early 90s, and I was a scream/impulse tracker musician for a while, back in the day. I know how tricky remixing those early mods and trying to keep the atmosphere intact can be, and I have to say the Precursors have done a superb job, and earned their group moniker. Clearly, you guys are superior beings. Now, having said that, let me join my voice to the chorus begging for the New Alliance tracks! I've been checking the site regularly since November, waiting.... the natives are getting restless. We want our Yehat theme!
But again, awesome. There's almost nothing awesomer.

As for myself I barely use Reason nowadays. Only for pattern based drum machine stuff. I prefer using something like Cubase with VSTi-s (both synth and sampler stuff) and various instruments recorded live. In the ZFP theme there are no "live instruments" but you'll hear some in other releases. I think they add some spice to this mostly electronic orientated project.

Forget what I said bout the ZoqFot song back in December! (Even though I was mistaken then for another reason entirely). This remix is BETTER than the originals (PC-dos and 3d0). Keep up the outstanding work. And a little advice for all of the impatient ones out there: Art takes as long as it takes. Attempting to hurry it has one of two results, it either takes even longer to complete, or will not be as good as originally envisioned. So relax, and let the anticipation build. It makes for a better experience anyhow :)

A roundup of answers to some questions asked below:
-We use Propellerheads' Reason for composing.
-Star Control 2 is indeed being ported to modern systems (W95/98/NT/2k/XP/MacOSX/&c.). You can find details at http://sc2.sourceforge.net.
-Melodies scheduled for release in pack four are: Yehat, Utwig, Zoq-Fot-Pik, Supox, Syreen, Pkunk, Chmmr, Shofixti, and Orz, as well as some bonus tracks. No release date has been set, because all of these are not yet finished. Don't worry, we're still working on it.

Well, I could spend all day praising your music.. but I believe whta I´m going to say to you gives the right idea of my opinion of your Remixes.
Put it simple, every time a new Remix pack came out, I nuked all my saved games and started the whole game from the beginning. Just so I could hear all those funny things the Dnyarri says with the Super-Cool "Didnt you mean to ask about flowers?" In the background.. And to hear the dramatic opening lines of the Ur-Quan with "Now and Forever" thundering in the background.. and best of all, feel those chills running through my spine as I am pulled out of Hyperspace and the screen reveals a formation 8 Kohr-Ah Marauders.. then that cool theme starts to play..
"We are the Ur-Quan Kohr-Ah. We cleanse our destiny. You will soon die. Make whatever rituals that are necessary for your species."
Thanks, guys.

Outstanding job so far guys! I love what has been done so far for the most part. I truly loved the remixes for the Thraddash, and Ur-Quan Kzer-za. I enjoyed the Spathi and Zoq-Fot not as much however. I am really looking forward to the Yehat theme remix. Loved the original. Keep up the outstanding work! It is truly appreciated by many!

Ok, I found the music I was looking for on The Pages of Now and Forever. Here's a direct link to the music page. You have to sign up for GameSpy to get the files from FilePlanet, but it's really easy, the downloading is fast, and just an email is needed for confirmation. They haven't sent me any junk mail, either.
http://www.classicgaming.com/starcontrol/3do/music.shtml
The Ur-Quan and Slylandro are my favourite tracks from the original. I know the Ur-Quan aren't THAT evil, but they are big badasses and deserve respect. Their music enforced that- your first reaction to the militaristic tone is: DANGER!
Dingus
November 3rd, 2004 - 22:54:34
I forgot to ask: if there is to be an intro (like the scrolling one in sc2) are you going to remix the intro music as well? Same question for the ending music?
Dingus
November 3rd, 2004 - 22:50:54
These remixes are all great. Ur-Quan remixes I like! They give sad but still menacing feeling. This suits the Ur-Quan who are conquerors only because of their tragic past. People should learn to view them more than just plainly "evil"!
Fervidus Humanus
November 3rd, 2004 - 02:39:37
These remixes are good for the most part, some good, some not so good. But it's hard to compete with the original tone and character of the original music. Speaking of which, does anyone know where I can download the original tracks? I can't find anything except MOD versions of the files. And for some reason, my media players can't read the MOD format files.

Remixes are great and they keep the spirit of starcontrol. At last the Thraddash theme is as it should be with all the guitars and feeling. Mycon remix is great. Now even Vux and Ilwrath are listenable I didn't like the original ones. But what the heck is wrong with all Ur-quan remixes, they all are too neat!!! It should be more aggresive and evil as the character and melody allows it to be so. Go for it! Keep up the good work.

What I meant was full length songs based around the victory ditties, and their "feel", but I suppose it would be extremely hard to this with 3 second sound clips to work with. And it's not like you guys don't have lives or anything. :P
TiLT
October 22nd, 2004 - 16:11:39
We already made remixes of all the victory ditties, and in many cases even more than one. Take a look at the first remix pack on sc2.sourceforge.net.
You can also download the individual victory ditties from this site by visiting the artist pages. If an artist remixed any victory ditties, they will be listed at the bottom of the page, along with download links for both the original version and the remix. Enjoy! :)

You can find Erol Otus' Ur-Quan remix in the bonus pack available at http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/sc2/uqm-remix-pack3-extras.zip?download
As a general rule of thumb, we do not put individual bonus tracks up for download on the Precursors pages unless they were made by the core team. This *might* change in the future, but we'll see. :)

We *do* have some plans on what we'll do after we release pack 4, but since it hasn't been announced yet, it's still a secret! Mwahahahaaa! ;)
I must point out, however, that some of us also have musical paths to follow outside of the Precursors project. Jouni (Mark Vera), for instance, also works on his new album (follow progress here: http://www.markvera.net ), while me and TiLT (Medieval Future) are making music all the time, both for various projects and for the sheer fun of it! So you won't have to worry about lack of new material from any of us, although we won't be doing music for UQM forever...

I have a few questions left. The music is absolutely fantastic, just as the original was! What about the back cover of the second remix pack? Would be great to make it available soon :)
And what is going to happen after the release of the fourth package? Does the Precursor Team say "no, that is enough" or will there be further small releases; perhaps by some other composers? I have great respect in your work - to all -, because you are doing it during your freetime to "resurrect" this great game by contributing remixed sound. Keep it up!

So cool! Excellent work with the ditties; the Mycon and Zoqfotpik were in sore need of a pick-me-up, and that's exactly what they got. I can't wait to hear the remixed race music; they were stupendous 10 years ago, and haven't aged all that badly... but a musical pick me up for the most intricately cool of video games is also warrented.
One trifle - what's with the phone ring and "Good morning!" in the Melnorme song? Seems more disturbing than spacey.

great work people. the music is quite astonishing, i'm listening to them every now and then though my favourites so far is "Under a Red Sky", "Welcome to Falayalaralfali" & "Through the Angles of Space" in that order. Hi folks,
the Original SC2 was one of the few games (until today) I just played to hear that great music. Of course the rest of it was great, too. Didn?t knew about the 3DO-Version and got the "remixed" tracks by downloading UQM as it reached version 0.1. Very good stuff. It is quite not as good as the oldest version, because of the memories bound to it, but it gets pretty close! Similar feelings, but more modern sound. And now I tried these "new" remixes a few days ago. Wow! The first time I thought "well, a bit strange", but each time listening it became better and better. I am really looking forward to the next two packages. Can?t get enough of it - all three "generations" and waiting for UQM 1.0 :)

Wow...I was browsing google while reliving one of the best games I have ever played in my childhood and came across the work being done to this epic game. We definitely need to push harder for another sequel, even if it's driven by the community. People today seem to think that 3d and 1st person make a good game, when it's really content, quality and story that make something epic. I really look forward to the end of the cookie cutter game and people want quality, not bastardizations! Good job, keep striving and return quality to the entertainment industry. Even if we have to push the development by hand ourselves. -J

Its very true to the original track, just updated. Hope you enjoy.
I can't do links here so paste the following into your browser.

At Least I know someone agrees with me. Personally I converted both Hyperspace (The original not UQM) And The Chmmr theme to Mp3 format via sound recorder then encoder. For some reason the one that I did comes out better than the one on PN&F I wonder why? Are there any encoders that will do this digitally as opposed to messing with my sound card? Email me plz MTV2K12001@yahoo.com. Any adverts I kick ur ass.

I agree about the hyperspace tune. Is it possible to rework the original with high quality tones and samples but keep exactly the same music and structure?
Just an update would be excellent.
I might start updating the sound efx too as they are too lo-fi for me these days. If anything good comes out of it I will be sure to post it on the web...

Don't take this the wrong way but certain tracks SHOULD NOT be touched, they have become classics no offence Riku but Hyperspace is one of them I know you wrote originally it just struck me as too slow errie and mysterious.

Superb work, thank you! Captures the spirit of the original SC2 and brings back some very good memories :) My favourite tracks are by Riku.

Hey guys, the music is awsome, as you must already know. I listen to it all the time.
I think you may have a spelling mistake in the ariloo track. Isn't Falayalaralafi, not Falayalaralfali?

Your music inspires future space explorers ;)
In other words, thanks and rock on. The tracks are amazing and for those who played the game they only add to the value.

I just found this website a while ago. Gonna go download the songs now (although my steam-driven 56.6k modem might not live through the experience)

Wow... that is some good stuff. Listening to you guys just makes me realize how much I suck at music making. My only qualm is that now that the music is being put at such a high level, it is going to make the graphics look really out of place. Any one out there want to work on that?

sorry to say this, guys, but the Ur-Quan Kzer-Za theme in-game is just too perfect. There is no way to improve on it.. but don't let that stop you.
I love you guys. And your music too. D:

Hi! Listened to all the remixes this evening. Enjoyed a great deal. Slylandro remix is indeed seamless. I set it to loop and didn't even realise I'd had it running for about ten minutes.
Nitpick on site main page.
