Title: VUX - Ultra-gross!
Remix Pack: 3 - The Ur-Quan Hierarchy
Track #: 3
Length: 2:21
Remixed by: Espen Gätzschmann and Tore Aune Fjellstad
Original written by: Dan Nicholson
Remix of: VUX.MOD
Comments: We could imagine only two realistic ways to take the VUX remix. One was an acid remix, while the other was a more metal-like remix. We went for the latter, and this is the result. "Ultra-gross" is a phrase the VUX use to describe humans, but might as well apply to the appearance of the VUX themselves, so we made that the title of the remix.

This one is also definitely better than the original, I think (and since I have the tendency to prefer the oriinal, this says something ;-)). The MOD of the vux really was one of the more uninspired of the bunch, so this remix has clearly improved on it and made it a lot better.

This music reminds me somewhat of the Intruder itself, rushes in and fires in a blaze of glory (Guitar riffs) then is forced to fall back by its poor speed to wait for another shot. Well done guys.

Change that guitar to a different one. The c-minor chord to a major one. Stupid ending.
Otherwise, it's a great one, especailly compared to the original track, which was clearly amongst the weakests.

7/10

Hahaha this is great. One of my favorites for sure. The original had a great melody, but lacked that extra something which you have found and infused in it.

This is WONDERFUL. <3 My love for the VUX is endless. The fact that they shall never return this love just amuses me and makes me love them even more.

But anyway, about the actual MUSIC. Very nice. I could listen to it all day.

I love it. Its got a great beat to it. I like how it starts with one sound, then different sounds just sort of add on. Ugly Vux

This makes me want to repeat that chant the VUX to me to do, which went something like this. "AAAHHHHHH".

This is VUX, and this song gives you the feeling of an intruder fleet sneaking through an asteroid belt, getting ready to pounce on the unsuspecting Earthling Cruiser fleet.

"Greetings from VUX, the last word in life-form destruction. To gain an intimate knowledge of our weapons of war, simply close your eyes and count to three!"

This fits the hateful VUX very well.

I like this song quite a bit, and at one time I had the other version... but I have, unforunatly, misplaced it, and I cannot seem to find it again, either on my HD or on the internet.
That being said, I can tell a difference between the two versions in a temporal kind of way... The otehr version has a way of dragging you (not in a bad way) so that time passes without you noticing, whereas the movement of time in this version is more pronounced. I have listened to the two of them right after each other, and it was only by a clock that I noticed that they weren't the same length. It was a little bit creepy but majorly cool, and I applaud it. Keep up with the remixes!

OakTea: You do realize that if you learn a little more about the history of the Insult, you realize your impression of the VUX isn't as off as it might seem.

I like this theme a lot. The inherent creepy, slimy menace isn't lost in the militaristic sound of the theme, although I really feel like this should be paired with the bonus "Acid in Your Eye" track included in the package. Since the player will spend a lot of time talking to Admiral ZEX as well as the generic VUX, I think combining the outright hostility of this song for the generic VUX and the muted nastiness of "Acid in Your Eye" for ZEX would work really well.

Very reminiscent of the War of the Worlds musical soundtrack (not the new movie one, the 80s one). Which is a good thing, though it does make the vux seem a little cooler than they really are.

Sadly, this music doesn't really fit the VUX, but who cares? I love this music. I listen to this track outside of the Ur-Quan Masters constantly. Maybe it's because I'm a sucker for distortion, but I really think that this track is well done (albeit ill-placed).

This one is one of my favourite remixes. It doesn't sound too menacing in my oppinion, but more sinister and shady, giving it some sort of "spy- or intelligence-theme". And some of the background instrumentation reminds me alot of some pieces in the game Homeworld:Cataclysm, though I can't exactly make out why.

This is a great remix. I listen to it often :)

Although it doesn't really suit the VUX, for reasons mentioned already, it does make an excellent evil tune. I always pictured the VUX as the evil guys who would attack for no good reason... So this tune does a good job of showing the VUX up until the point where you hear about 'The Insult'. (Which is sad, because it is often heard early.)

The acid mix is quite a bit better, seeming more Vux, with a classy smooth, slimy evil theme.

Another solid metal track. Perhaps too aggressive for the VUX (they're vain) but a good menacing sound just the same.

Another good song I personaly play often outside of the game, right along with the urquan remix. As for fealing, they definately have more of a menacing feal to them now. It seems they slightly lost that goofy feal but just about every race had a goofy feal so being as they are bad guys the extra menace is nice. I thought it interesting that the core tune is left largely untouched, realy brings the old song up and I didn't care for the beeps much.

Excellent. You turned a mediocre song into a great one.

Awww, no neatbeep? The guitar riffs are killer, and the VUX sound a lot more sinister than they have any good reason to be, with the theme dropping back and skulking until it builds back up again. Nice work, neatbeeps or no.

I think this is a great remix of the original song, and I too am glad that the old cymbals are gone. The distorted guitar adds a lot of menace to the song, too... the only thing I really miss is the old "beep-beep-beep" part, as I used to beep along with it.

I'm pretty surprised you guys didn't write a new peice for this one. The 3do one was... bad. But yes, I like that melody in the bass more. And no more of those annoying cymbals. I hated the 3do one but I loved the remix. I loved the little drum rolls, and that interlude thing in the middle. Very suspenceful indeed.
