Hah. Looks like I need to relearn how to scroll my browser window.
Doh!

Or perhaps you should read the first comments on this page? ;) The Banzai vs Bonsai argument has been made before by people who don't realize that it's a joke.

Great song. Just an side comment about the title:
Bonsai = Miniature plant that is pruned for artistic beauty.
Banzai = War cry.
Perhaps the title should be renamed?

No, not a good one at all.
But strangely, it fits the Shofixti, and I don't know why. Brave attempt with an uhh, exceptional result, I think.
9/10

Personally I like this track a lot. It's ... different. I would have probably cried if it were something generic with shinen "guitars" and taiko drums. Puh-leeeease. Having a turntablist song makes a turn to the unknown, and it works.

Compared to others, I not only like the remix, but in a twisted way, especially since I've watched Samurai Champloo (to which the show don't give a crap that it's set in feudal Japan and throws hip hop and R&B like no tomorrow), I think it suits the Shofixti nicely. Sounds Japanese enough to me, if you also include anime in the mix. :P

Considering how quickly the Shofixti repopulates the Galaxy after some minor development assistance I think the phrase "Like a Phantom on the loose" is quite suitable. ;)
Besides, this track really rocks and its hyperactiveness also seems to fit the Shofixti's courage, their well known glory device trigger happiness and their overall youthfulness. After all, after their race's rebirth they're basically an all new generation. ;)

I like how they made the turn table sound like puppies barking

I like this track... I think it's funny. But it's quite fitting for the Sofixi, I don't think.

Go out and rent "Samurai Champloo". Then play this song again. Perfect fit!

Okay I just played the game again and I can see why the re-mix was done this way. The Shofixti are so hyper and agressive that I think a hip-hop beat goes better with them than a more japanese approach. One thing that I think would add to the song would be to add little sound clips from the 3DO voice-over of the shofixti yelling Kyaiyii! or whatever it is they like to yell.
Tokolosh February 27th, 2006 - 18:49:48
Uh... No, I'm not sure this is the one. It's just too hip-hop and, as everyone else has commented, not Japanese enough.
The scratching is overdone. While the turntableism is admirable in it's own right, it take precedence over the other elements of the track, and that just ain't right. Remember, the ONLY time you hear this track in-game is when you're talking to Tanaka standing vigil around the remains of his burned-out homeworld, and there ain't NOTHIN' funky about that kind of self-imposed duty.
The vocal sample "Like a Phantom on the loose" is completely wrong for both the flavour of the track and the race itself, and completely highjacks the track and takes it somewhere the Shofixti don't need to be.
Sorry guys, but I don't think this is the one.

Ok, my memory has sliped in my old age. :p I didn't remember it sounding like this before. Suddenly, the remix makes more sence. But still, it just CRYS OUT for a more traditional Japanese styling....with Taiko drums....hm. I might find a way to make one after all.
Gaming Geek January 19th, 2006 - 20:47:28
Well, I do agree with some of the other comments made on the web forum and here. I don't really think that this remix fits my image of them. However, I think I'll sneak over to the developer's side, and say "If you don't like it, make a version of your own." ^_^ Lord knows if I had the tools, I would try.
It IS good, just ....not what I was looking for.
Elerium January 17th, 2006 - 19:02:25
Woah, mental image of hip hop Shofixti with full bling breakdancing.
O_o
I agree there should be a more traditional one, but this one is good :D
Someone Who Commented January 15th, 2006 - 06:35:24
Don't go confusing the Shofixti and the Supox, now. :)
Naz January 14th, 2006 - 10:11:06
They ARE plants, after all ;)
CaptainObvious January 14th, 2006 - 02:42:58
The beginning is alright, but the rest of the song doesn't flow right, the various instruments don't play well together, and those scream after beginning and that voice sample really don't fit into it, either. Not really an improvement IMO. I think it'd sound better with a suite of softer sounding instruments that fit better together, or more like traditional old-style japanese music.

You'll never know...

You know that "banzai" is the famous salute used by kamikaze pilots, and "bonsai" is the word for tiny little trees, right? Or is this an intentional pun?
